Digital HumanitiesWe create value from Digital Cultural Heritage
Digital Cultural Heritage and the benefit to be gained from Digital Cultural Patrimony represent an area in strong growth, which give an opportunity to add value to cultural heritage in an innovative, open and collaborative way.
CELI develops web platforms and multilingual search engines for archives, libraries, museums, and multilingual corpora.
We are members of the Associazione Italiana per l’Informatica Umanistica e la Cultura Digitale (AIUCD), which is an associate organization of European Associations for Digital Humanities (EADH). AIUCD is one of the most important initiatives in this field and we carry-out research in collaboration with universities and research facilities such as University of Turin, Bruno Kessler Foundation Trento and the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa.
Within the Digital Humanities field we have developed highly innovative projects among which the automation of Named Entities Recognition for the history archives of the Italian newspaper La Stampa in 2011 (this is the only completely digitalised and catalogued Italian journalistic archive with over 11 million documents). We also developed the search engine Librinlinea, which permits the consultation of all resources available in Piedmont libraries. Finally we carried out the ASED (Annotazione Semantica per Edizioni Digitali) research project.
The use of digital tools in scholastic and educational environments is an important opportunity for Human Sciences (Italian, English, History and geography among others), to promote better understanding and the creation of meaning.
We promote the use of digital tools in educational and scholastic environments.
CELI creates innovative and usable solutions for the Digital School in conjunction with its users, i.e. teachers, and students of various levels. With the Cross Library we have developed the web application CBook, applying Digital Humanities technologies to literary texts, in collaboration with the Bruno Kessler Foundation in Trento, with a view to increasing language and digital skills to promote the understanding and learning and to stimulate cooperation online.
